Provides technical expertise pertaining to maintain and repair metal structures, equipment and machinery across Orpic sites and all related operations under Team Leader - Static (Generic) Services scope as, Technical Service provider of welding maintenance services for the execution of minor projects, modifications in accordance with the technical standards set by TSD to maintain the assets; by (1) Execution of repetitive welding tasks related (application of heat to permanently join metal parts to repair and fabricate metal structures and equipment on assembly units) including TIG (tungsten inert gas) process and MIG (metal inert gas) process.(2) Fabricate and assemble metal structures, equipment and measuring tools. (3) Produce metal products according to customer specifications, (4) Read and interpret diagrams, sketches and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and timeframes for projects, and (5) Operates and maintain welding equipment; in order to ensure the safe completion of the assigned duty of the equipment under hazardous conditions, in Orpic Plants within day to day maintenance activities, as well as, during plants’ turnaround and overhauls and support the operation of the equipment.
Welder position will act in accordance with Orpic values & strategies, policies, guidelines, technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives and Ethics standards
Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements.
Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by engineer. when welding, eye protection, safety shoes, protective clothing, and ear plugs).
Hands equipment and tools (measuring tools, belt sander, forklift, overhead hoist, bridge crane, steel saw horse, broom. Mig welder, plasma cutter, cutting torch, hand grinders).
Ensure all mandatory HSE inductions are completed
Knowledge Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications for this position is Diploma in Technology or similar.
Certified Welder or Certified Welding Fabricator credentials.
Minimal years of relevant experience is 2 years in a similar role.
Experience with steel, aluminium and or stainless steel
Experience with MIG and TIG welding processes
Experience with CNC press break, CNC folding machines and automatic saws
Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Be able to read and interpret blueprints.
Must be able to read a tape measure.
Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
Ability to use weld fillet gauges to ensure proper weld size and interpret tolerances.
Must be able to identify and measure material.
Reading and understanding the equipment manuals
Welding metal structures, TIG welding (tungsten inert gas) MIG welding (metal inert gas)
Strength and skills to manage welding equipment.
Equipment failure diagnosis.
