Al Loomie Omani Fusion Restaurant

Description :

We would like to announce the opening of Al Loomie by Chef Salim Al Kalbani, where you can a complete a journey and enjoy a sumptuous Omani traditional dinner with a twist at the new restaurant. A privately owned, fine dining restaurant located at the sabla of the Al Bustan Palace A Ritz Carlton Hotel. Chef Salim Al Kabani and his 100 % Omani team invite you to a journey of the senses, with a menu crafted around the flavours and culinary traditions of Oman's regions. Chef Salim and his wife have brought something new to the Sultanate with their catering brand The Dried Lemon, taking Classic dishes and giving them a local twist. Al Loomie is the chef's new outlet and brings together local products and contemporary culinary techniques, for a five star dining experience in a traditional ambiance. The experience : contemporary harmony, exquisite surroundings, Attention to details, refined cuisine.

We visited the Al Loomie whilst staying at the nearby Al Bustan Palace. Its is only about 8 minutes walk from the hotel lobby, however parts of the way are a little dark and there are construction areas for the forthcoming hotel refurb. The final approach to the restaurant is well lit and we were informed that the restaurant will collect guests from the hotel and take them back, so no excuses.
Al Loomie is family run anad we met the chef several times during the evening. It was a little quite with only a few other diners, all outside as the evening was warm.
The restaurant has several dining areas allowing traditional Arabic families to dine alone if wished.
Portions are generous, I had the mixed kebabs as a starter, chicken, beef, shrimp plus a good sized lamb chop well cooked so pink. The marinaade was excellent. My wife had the chicken soup, very tasty but a more modest portion which suited her.

The chef will tailor dishes if required. We asked for and had a nice 20 minute gap between courses.

Mains were again generous. I had the lamb biriani, good flavours but perhaps a bit dry for my liking. My wife had the chicken tagliatelle, ok but she had had better.

Good house red wine, we had two glasses and had a complimentary glass . Prices overall similar to the Ritz Carlton nearby.

Shame it is not better publicised and not got a better approach from the hotel, which only has three restaurants anyway.
100% Omani.. now thats hard to find anywhere in Oman.. leave that aside maybe it not of great importance to some, but, the food!! Unbelievable!! That taste of pure Omani food handled by a famous Chief .. it a restaurant that you must go to at least once a month.. i wish them all the best! If you seek tasty, luxury, Omani food this is the place to go!
